French Onion Dip
Description
This French Onion Dip gets its creaminess from Icelandic Provisions Plain Skyr. Cooking the onions low and slow gives you an insane depth of flavor, especially with a little hint of Worcestershire sauce. Serve with your favorite dippers, like baby carrots, celery, crackers, or chips.
Ingredients
2 Tablespoon
Olive Oil
2
Yellow Onions
1 Teaspoon
Kosher Salt
1/2 Teaspoon
Black Pepper
2 Teaspoon
Worcestershire Sauce
1 Cup
Icelandic Provisions Plain Skyr
1 Teaspoon
Garlic Powder
Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Recipe
Saute the aromatics:
Set a heavy, medium-sized cast-iron pan or skillet over medium heat and add olive oil. Once hot, add thinly sliced onions. Saute, stirring occasionally, for 8 - 10 minutes, until the onions are soft and translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
Caramelize the onions:
Reduce the heat to medium-low, and cook the onions for 20 - 25 - 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are deep-golden brown in color (but not burnt) and taste quite sweet.
Cool the mixture:
Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer to a serving bowl. Let cool until mixture feels just slightly lukewarm, about 10 minutes.
Mix the base:
Stir in the skyr and garlic powder, and season to taste, adding a squeeze of lemon if desired.
